Dr. Kizza Besigye was arrested in early May after a video surfaced on social media depicting him taking the oath of office for president a day before Museveni was sworn in as president.
Besigye was flown to detention in Moroto immediately after he was arrested only to be transferred to Luzira Maximum Security Prison where he was being held till today.
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader was released after the court granted him bail. The presiding judge found the objections by the prosecution insufficient to deny him bail.
State prosecutors have failed to produce substantive evidence to pin Besigye for treason charge, they have repeatedly said that police had yet to conclude their investigation.
Meanwhile the court has ordered Besigye to report to the court every two weeks. The FDC leader will tonight enjoy the comfort of his bed in his Kasangati home in Wakiso District.
