(DailyNewsUg) The Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Rally is scheduled for Thursday September 15th -Saturday 17th 2016.
Former national rally champion Ronald Ssebuguzi and current champion Arthur Blick Jr have been urged to fight hard and win the Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally due September 15-17 in Busiika, Luweero and Mubende districts.
Vivo Energy Managing Director Hans Paulsen made the call during the launch of the annual event at the company offices in Industrial Area before committing sh100m to this year’s edition.
“We support two drivers Arthur and Ronald and we want them to win this championship. Whoever comes first or second, they will sort themselves,” Paulsen said.
“V-Power is the best in automobile performance and we shall continue supporting FMU as long as they observe safety of all participants including fans, environmental protection and keep our reputation good in the public,” Paulsen said before handing over the cheque to FMU president Dusman Okee. The rally scheduled for September 15-17 in Mubende will have five sections of over 670km. Only two are competitive (232km).
Federation of Motorsports Clubs in Uganda (FMU) president Dusman Okee thanked Vivo Energy and promised that they will adhere to their demands of promoting safety during the rally.
And though he is desperate to make it a memorable event for all stakeholders, he needed Hansen to save him from the press’ questions on the total budget for the event.

“With our Shs100m we are not buying but sponsoring the sport to cater for what they must have. Budgets can have ‘nice to-have things’ and we don’t stop them from bringing other sponsors on board,” Hansen said.
Okee lauded Shell for the continued support and promised the best ever organised rally.
“We shall do whatever it takes to have the best organised rally and I can assure you that safety and accountability are always our priority,” Okee stated.
The 19th edition of the Shell V-Power Pearl of Africa Uganda is the sixth round of the Africa Rally Championship (ARC) and is expected attract top foreign drivers around the continent.
“We went back to Mubende because we found private estates and forests where our drivers will get minimal interruptions,” Clerk of Course David Mayanja said at the press brie-fing held at Vivo Energy offices in Industrial Area.

The rally fraternity is eagerly anticipating for this years event. This is “the” event of the 2016 Calender year.
