Namilyango College beat Makerere College to clinch the Schools Rugby title.
U-19: Namilyango 5 MACOS 3
U-17: Namilyango 11 SMACK 0
U-15: SMACK 3 Budo 0
Makerere College School (MACOS) came close, but not close enough, as Namilyango College successfully defended their Schools Rugby U-19 trophy 5-3 at Kyadondo Rugby Club on Saturday.
Both teams were in the same pool in the prelimiaries although Namilyango won each of the ties 6-3 and 13-16 respectively.
Competition between the two rival teams was therefore going to be tight on the day.
Namilyango took early control of the possession although they didn’t create much in the first half.
They found themselves in uncharted territory at Kyadondo as MACOS had brought a large cheerleading crew that threw them off a bit.
They went into the break evenly poised at 0-0, and with the muddy pitch making life harder for the two sets of players.
Second half saw more of what happened in the first half and it became clear the match was to be low scoring.
Midway through the second half, an opening arose and Namilyango fullback Karim Arinaitwe scored what would be the only try of the match.
It gave then a lifeline, but Makerere College scored a penalty which set the match up for an tense finish.
